The launch of Dynamic Island brings users a new way to interact with the iPhone. It blurs the lines between hardware and software, changing in real time to reveal important reminders, notifications, and activities.
Recall that from the Home button, 3D Touch, Face ID, Dynamic Island, and the MacBook's Touch Bar, Apple's interface design combines hardware and software. But Dynamic Island is different. The screen with holes is not the first launch for Apple. Instead, it is designed based on an inherent disadvantage, turning the disadvantage into an advantage. This ability is potent.
Back to this design, after watching the video, I still have some doubts about the capabilities of Dynamic Island. Can the developer control it? To what extent can it be controlled? Does the style of the original notification need to be adapted? We can find some answers HERE:
Here I speculate on its capabilities based on my understanding:
- The remote push notification and the background stay in the content display area.
- When displaying as a background stay, you need to apply for background capabilities, and there should also be a stay configuration.
- When combined with the capabilities of Dynamic Island and Live Activities, it can serve as a more streamlined notification panel. As for whether we can customize its styling, I'm not sure yet. However, there are at least two options. One is simple customization through ActivityKit, and the other is like a music controller, where the system automatically controls specific elements.
- It supports the stay of up to two apps and will become an "exclamation mark" style. As for how it will display if there are more background apps, this is unclear.
- Click to switch to the corresponding app, and long press to expand to a large screen. Currently, the known large screen styles include:
Long strips.
Rounded squares.
Short and tall rectangles extend the edges of the screen.
A size between the rounded squares and the screen width.
- Long press to expand the style of Dynamic Island can provide developers with customization capabilities, but there is not much content that we can control. For example, the background will be limited to black to blend in with the screen.
- Changing the width of the Dynamic Island will affect the display of the time and signal on the left and right sides. If the Dynamic Island is displayed in a large size, the elements on both sides will be squeezed out of the screen.
- Regarding the issue of how the original push notification pops up, because Dynamic Island needs a black background to reflect continuity, this part of the interaction will not be migrated by default. In that case, I guess a new notification style will be used to adapt Dynamic Island.
